Broken Symmetry, Spin Helix, and Skyrmion in B20 Magnets

Cubic B20 magnets have a simple cubic unit cell but with broken symmetry. The Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (D-M) interaction due to the broken inversion symmetry causes enables new magnetic orderings of spin helix ground state and the skyrmion state. The observed transport signatures of the broken C4 symmetry and the unique spin helix intrinsic resistance reveal substantial spin-orbit interaction. A minimal microscopic theory with explicit spin-orbit terms accounts for the transport results.
