Parametric down-conversion with nonideal and random quasi-phase-matching

We describe theoretical and experimental studies of parametric down-conversion with quasi-phase-matching (QPM) subject to nonideal duty cycle and random phase error. Emergence of noncritically birefringent-phase-matched biphotons, with a spectrum dependent on the nonidealities and randomness, is observed in a PPKTP crystal of short periodicity. This work may provide new perspectives for biphoton engineering with QPM.
