Accurate Human Pulse Sensing Using Gold Nanoparticles Strain Devices

In recent years, intensive researches are made in building gold nanoparticles(AuNPs) film into strain sensors.[1,2,3] . With a concise and economical way, we synthesized gold nanoparticles with 3-mercaptopropionic acid and self-assembled them into film on polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) substrates. The AuNPs film shows large resistance change when the substrates is streched or bended, with a gauge factor about 58. With suitable packaging, AuNPs devices exhibit reproducible resistance changes depending on stress in normal direction. Human pulse is measured by attaching device onto wrist and real-time recording device resistance, which changes at most by 10%.
