Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer from Quantum-Well donors to Multiple Quantum-Dot Acceptors via Optical Waveguiding

We demonstrate a multiplexed three-color fluorescence resonance energy transfer from InGaN quantum wells to CdSe semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) via optical waveguiding. The steady-state photoluminescence (PL) measurement provides an apparent evidence of the resonance energy transfer between the donor and the multiple acceptors. In the time-resolved PL study, a shortening (lengthening) of the photoluminescence decay time in the quantum-well donor (the QD acceptors) was observed when a single donor interacting with multiple acceptors. The energy-transfer efficiency of this system is high, promising for developing multiple biosensing as well as multiplexed real-time imaging and spectroscopy.
