Particle simulations of magnetic reconnection in electron proton plasmas

Magnetic field reconnection may occur in space, astrophysical and laboratory plasmas which involves the conversion of magnetic field energy into kinetic energy. Both fluid and kinetic models have been adopted to examine the nonlinear evolution of magnetic reconnection process. In the study, we use the developed hybrid particle model to examine the two-dimensional magnetic reconnection. The hybrid model treats the ion as particles and the electron as fluid which can examine the ion scale dynamics. Our study will focus on the physical process associated with the ion dynamics during magnetic reconnection.
