A highly efficient 946-nm Nd:YAG laser with cryogenic cooling

A high-power monolithic Nd:YAG 946-nm laser is demonstrated with cryogenic cooling. It is theoretically and experimentally proved that the significant degradation of the thermal population at lower laser level efficiently enhance the output power of the quasi-three-level operation for the Nd:YAG laser. At the cooling temperature of 120 K, the maximum output power reach 24.4 W with the conversion efficiency of 71% as well as the slope efficiency up to 75%.
